A correction worth making
For years Orlando was described as the most dangerous metro in the country for pedestrians, and the line still circulates. It is no longer accurate. In the 2026 edition of the national ranking, Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford sits at 25th, not first, with 419 pedestrian deaths between 2020 and 2024. The risk is real and still above the national average — but we would rather give you the current number than a dramatic stale one.
Tourists, rentals and layered insurance
When the at-fault driver is a visitor in a rental car, the coverage picture gets more complicated and usually more favourable: there may be the driver’s own out-of-state policy, the rental company’s cover, any credit-card protection they bought, and your own uninsured motorist cover behind all of it. Those policies have to be identified quickly, because a visitor who flies home is a witness and a defendant who becomes very hard to reach.

The clock is two years now
Florida’s 2023 reform cut the negligence filing deadline from four years to two and introduced a bar at more than fifty percent of fault — above that share, a claimant recovers nothing rather than a reduced amount. For visitors injured on holiday here, the shorter deadline is the one that catches people out, because the claim competes with getting home and getting well. Medical malpractice kept the older rule.
